Expansion of the Aurangabad and Gondia airports approved

The Government of Maharashtra has approved the expansion of the Aurangabad and Gondia airports managed by AAI. A sum of around Rs 5.78 billion has been allocated for the expansion and acquisition of 147 hectares of land, targeted towards catering to the increasing number of tourists and enhan­cing the infrastructure. At Au­rangabad airport, the existing runway will be extended from 2,385 metres to 3,660 metres, along with the construction of a parallel taxiway. Another airport expansion is under way in Gondia district, Vidar­bha, where Rs 150 million was sanctioned to acquire 15 hectares of land and for the diversion of two state highways. Resolutions for both airport ex­pan­sions were issued by the state government on Novem­ber 23, 2023.
