The Government of Maharashtra has approved the expansion of the Aurangabad and Gondia airports managed by AAI. A sum of around Rs 5.78 billion has been allocated for the expansion and acquisition of 147 hectares of land, targeted towards catering to the increasing number of tourists and enhancing the infrastructure. At Aurangabad airport, the existing runway will be extended from 2,385 metres to 3,660 metres, along with the construction of a parallel taxiway. Another airport expansion is under way in Gondia district, Vidarbha, where Rs 150 million was sanctioned to acquire 15 hectares of land and for the diversion of two state highways. Resolutions for both airport expansions were issued by the state government on November 23, 2023.
