The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has implemented an advanced technology for the production of zero-bacterial water at water treatment plants (WTP) with the support of the Indian Institute of Science (IISC). At present, BWSSB treats 1,200 mld of wastewater, out of 1,800 mld of generated wastewater. This treated water is supplied for non-domestic purposes as it contains certain bacteria that are harmful for domestic purposes.
The new technology has been installed at Agara, K.C. Valley and Bellandur sewage treatment plants and ensures that the water quality meets the criterion of the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board. The treated water can be used for domestic purposes except for drinking. Moreover, several companies like Wipro, HAL, etc. are also interested in purchasing this treated water.
