Indian Railways to develop 200 new Gati Shakti cargo terminals

Indian Railways (IR) is planning to develop 200 new Gati Shakti cargo terminals with an investment of Rs 140 billion. Presently, IR is expected to accomplish its earlier target of developing 100 Gati Shakti terminals ahead of schedule. Currently, 60 terminals are already operational under public private partnership (PPP) mode and the remaining 40 are likely to be operational by March 2025. Further, the operational terminals have received an overall investment of Rs 53.74 billion and are functioning in the states of Telangana, Odisha, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh among others. Additionally, IR’s Raipur railway division inaugurated its first Gati Shakti cargo terminal at Raipur railway station on April 28, 2024. Meanwhile, IR is focusing on transportation of weighted products like coal, cement etc. and to increase its operational efficiency, it will also focus on the containerisation of volume goods.
