In a notable development, the Board of Trustees of Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata (SMPK) has introduced a new concession scheme to enhance vessel calls and provide frequent and seamless connections to the export-import trade of the region. Applicable from May 1, 2024, the scheme will be valid for two years, subject to review after one year. This scheme is tailored for vessels under foreign run operating between Haldia Dock Complex (HDC) of SMPK and select foreign transhipment ports of Colombo, Singapore, Port Klang, and any Indian Transhipment Port. Under the scheme, vessels calling at HDC with a volume of 601-1,000 twenty-feet equivalent units (TEUs) per single call will receive 20 per cent concession on vessel related charges (VRC), while those with 1,001 TEUs and above will receive 30 per cent concession. However, this scheme does not apply to container vessels already benefiting from the concession scheme for direct services sanctioned on December 15, 2023.
