During April-October 2021, Indian major ports handled 406.98 million tonnes (mt) of traffic, compared to 355.16 mt in the corresponding period of 2020-21, registering an increase of 14.59 per cent. Port-wise, Deendayal port handled the maximum traffic at 74 mt, followed by Paradip port (65.28 mt) and the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) (42.61 mt). In terms of traffic volume, the ports that registered the maximum increase are Kamarajar (76.63 per cent) JNPT (30.43 per cent), Cochin (25.92 per cent), Chennai (23.09 per cent), and Deendayal (17.6 per cent). With regard to commodities, petroleum, oil and lubricants accounted for the highest share at 30.22 per cent (123 mt), followed by containers and coal (thermal, steam, coking and others) at 23.59 per cent (95.99 mt) and 20.76 per cent (84.47 mt) respectively.
