Karnataka Neeravari Nigam Limited is implementing the drinking water supply project in the arid zones of Kolar, Chikkaballapur, Tumkur and Bengaluru rural districts by diverting water from Yettinahole, one of the tributaries of the Netravati river. The project is being implemented in two stages at an estimated cost of about Rs 35 billion and Rs 94 billion. The project involves diverting 24,000 million cubic feet of water to Kolar and Chikkaballapur districts. On March 5, 2020, the Karnataka government allocated funds worth Rs 15 billion to complete the first stage of lift component works of the project under its budget 2020-21. However, the long-pending project has hit a roadblock due to the Covid-19 crisis. The first stage of the project was expected to be commissioned by monsoon this year. However, it has now been pushed to March 2021.
