MoRTH launches and inaugurates national highway projects worth Rs 151 billion in Rajasthan

The MoRTH has inaugurated 12 national highway projects worth Rs 56.1 billion and launched 11 projects worth Rs 94.9 billion in Rajasthan. The inaugurated projects include a six-lane cable bridge across Chambal at Kota entailing a cost of Rs 2.78 billion; the four-laning of the Gomti Chauraha-Udaipur section of National Highway (NH)-8 at a cost of Rs 11.29 billion; four-laning of the Rajsamand-Bhilwara section of NH-758 at a cost of Rs 13.60 billion; constructing the Nagaur bypass to Netra village on NH-65 at a cost of Rs 3.01 billion; and 48 road safety projects at a cost of Rs 3.81 billion. The projects that were launched include four-laning of the Bar-Bilara-Jodhpur section of NH-112 at an estimated cost of Rs 12.49 billion; six-laning of the Kishangarh-Gulabpura section of NH-79A and NH-79 at an estimated cost of Rs 11.84 billion; six-laning of the Gulabpura end of the Chittorgarh section of NH-79 at an estimated cost of Rs 13.78 billion; six-laning of the Chittorgarh-Udaipur section of NH-76 at an estimated cost of Rs 12.23 billion; six-laning of the new Udaipur bypass on NH-8 at an estimated cost of Rs 7.26 billion; six-laning of the Udaipur-Rajasthan/Gujarat border section of NH-8 at an estimated cost of Rs.16.16 billion; Jaipur Ring Road at an estimated cost of Rs 16.68 billion; two-lane paved shoulders section of Balotra-Sanderao Package II of NH-325 at an estimated cost of Rs 1.78 billion; two-lane paved shoulders section of Balotra-Sanderao (Package III) on NH-325 at an estimated cost of Rs 1.64 billion; four-lane cement concrete road with safety provisions in Jhalawar, NH-12 at an estimated cost of Rs 0.8 billion; and a two-lane road overbridge and its approaches on NH-709 extension near Sadulpur railway station at an estimated cost of Rs 0.24 billion.

Going forward, the ministry plans to spend Rs 2 trillion on building national highways in Rajasthan over the next five years with national highway projects worth Rs 500 billion expected to be completed in the near future. These include the 132 km Jaisalmer-Barmer section on NH-15, by November 2017; the 107 km Barmer-Sachaur section on NH-15, by February 2018; the 204 km Uniyara-Gulabpur section on NH-148D and the 160 km Bikaner-Falaudi section on NH-15, by April 2018.

Meanwhile, construction work on the six-lane Delhi-Jaipur highway is 90 per cent complete with work on the Falaudi-Jaisalmer section on NH-15 proceeding rapidly. A 195 km greenfield expressway has also been planned between Delhi and Jaipur, which will start from Kherki Daula in Gurgaon, connect the Dwarka Expressway, and then connect NH-8 at Chandwaji via Pataudi. The feasibility study for this project is currently under way.
