IR to collaborate with Malaysian government for redevelopment of 20 railway stations

Indian Railways (IR) is planning to collaborate with the Malaysian government to redevelop 20 railway stations in Tier II cities across the country, at an estimated cost of Rs 100 billion. As per the plans, a long-term partnership will be forged with Malaysia on a government-to-government (GTG) basis for 20 railway stations to be redeveloped by Malaysian companies, including the Construction Industry Development Board Holdings Sdn Bhd. These projects, to be awarded on a GTG basis, are besides the 23 railway station redevelopment projects that are currently under bidding. Meanwhile, Indian Railway Stations Development Corporation Limited has received seven bids for the redevelopment of the Surat railway station in Gujarat on a design-build-finance-operate-transfer basis, at an estimated cost of Rs 37.65 billion. Further, five companies have evinced interest in undertaking the redevelopment of the Secunderabad railway station, at an estimated cost of Rs 1 billion.
