With the formation of the new government at the centre in 2014, the Metrolink Express for Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad (MEGA) became a JV between the central government and the Gujarat government and was rechristened as Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation in January 2019. The Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar metro is being implemented in two phases. JICA has extended a Rs 60.66 billion loan for the first phase. In March 2019, the central government inaugurated a 6.5 km stretch connecting Vastral to Apparel Park under the east-west corridor. At present, 55 per cent of the work has been completed on Phase I. Seamless connectivity, minimum land acquisition, state-of-the-art infrastructure, etc. are some of the key features of the project.
