Reportedly, Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) has proposed an investment of about Rs 2.73 trillion over 30 years to develop India’s first integrated underground coal gasification complex in Eluru district, Andhra Pradesh. The project is proposed at the Chintalapudi and Recherla coal blocks in coastal Andhra Pradesh, which RIL recently secured through an e-auction conducted by the Ministry of Coal. The project remains subject to commercial viability following exploration.
The proposed development will be taken up in three phases. RIL plans to commence exploration activities during the current financial year, with the initial exploration and pilot phase scheduled from Q3 FY 2026-27 to Q4 FY 2027-28 and involving investment of up to Rs 30 billion.
