Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) has achieved breakthrough of 1.38 km long Tunnel-1 under Wardha-Nanded New Line (via Yavatmal-Pusad) Project in Maharashtra on August 5, 2026. With this, work on all five tunnels, covering overall length of 7.64 km have been completed under the project.
Moreover, work on the Tunnel-1 located on 1-degree curve was completed with near-zero alignment deviation. Besides, about 850 metres of the tunnel passes through class IV/V rock, including around five metres of Red Bole layer, while the remaining stretch passes through Class II/III rock.
The project involves development of a 284 km long new rail line between Wardha and Nanded in the state of Maharashtra with an investment of Rs 34.45 billion. It was sanctioned in the Railway Budget 2008-09. Of the total project cost, 40 percent is being funded by the state government, and the remaining 60 percent is funded by the Ministry of Railways (MoR).
