On June 23, 2026, V.O. Chidambaranar (VOC) Port launched PortGPT, becoming the first major port in India to deploy an enterprise-level artificial intelligence (AI) application. PortGPT functions as a dedicated mobile application, and is expected to enhance operational efficiency, knowledge management and data-driven decision-making.
VOC Port has also emerged as a model for sustainable maritime development, reporting a 45 per cent reduction in net carbon emissions and renewable energy offsetting nearly 94 per cent of the port’s energy consumption. The port has also halved its carbon intensity per tonne of cargo over the past four years.
