MoR sanctions funds for doubling of Thakurganj-Siliguri Junction section in Bihar, West Bengal

The Ministry of Railways (MoR) has sanctioned funds worth Rs 9.16 billion for the doubling of the 56 km long Thakurganj-Siliguri Junction rail section under the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR).

The sanction was communicated on June 8, 2026.

The project involves doubling of the rail section running from Thakurganj in Bihar, entering West Bengal via Naxalbari and reaching Siliguri via Bagdogra, along a parallel route to the principal Aluabari Road-New Jalpaiguri (NJP) corridor. The project is located in the states of Bihar and West Bengal. The sanction follows the Railway Board’s earlier decision to double the 7.15 km NJP-Siliguri Junction stretch, facilitating doubling of the entire Thakurganj-Siliguri stretch along the strategic Siliguri corridor.
