SPML Infra Limited, India’s leading water infrastructure development company, has been awarded a prestigious Rs 10.73 billion (inclusive of Goods and Services Tax) ($ 124 million) project by Indore Municipal Corporation for the augmentation of the water supply system under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) 2.0; an ambitious initiative launched by government of India with the goal of making Indian cities “water secure” and self-reliant. The project also includes a comprehensive 10-year operation and maintenance (O&M) contract.
Project scope and significance
The landmark project is designed to significantly strengthen Indore’s water supply infrastructure, ensuring reliable access to safe drinking water to its over 2 million citizens. The scope of work includes:
- Intake and raw water pumping: Construction of a state-of-the-art intake of 1,650 million litres per day (mld) capacity along with a raw water pump house.
- Water treatment plant: A modern 400 mld water treatment plant (WTP) equipped with advanced technology to meet stringent water quality standards.
- Pumping and transmission: Development of clear water booster pumping stations, pumping mains, and associated transmission systems with 22 kilometres of pipeline of 1,200 millimetres (mm) to 2,337 mm diameter
- Electric substation: Establishment of an integrated 132/33 kilovolt power substation to support the water supply operations.
- Long-term operations: Comprehensive 10-year O&M contract, ensuring optimal system performance with structured escalation provisions.

The engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) part of the project is scheduled to be completed within 30 months (including rainy seasons) from the signing of the contract.
