The construction work on Asifabad-Sirpur Kaghaznagar section (11km) under the Ballarshah-Kazipet Third Line Project was completed on July 22, 2026. With this, the entire project has been completed.
Besides, a stretch near Ballarshah station under the Central Railway (CR) is being connected to the Ballarshah yard through the project.
The project, executed by South Central Railway (SCR), involved tripling of 201.04 km long rail line from Ballarshah to Kazipet excluding 33.42 km long section route from Mandamarri-Rahgavapuram in the states of Maharashtra and Telangana respectively. In Telangana, the line will pass through Warangal, Karimnagar and Adilabad districts while in Maharashtra, it passes through Chandrapur district. The project is expected to cater to the increasing freight and passenger traffic of power plants, coal and cement in the region. It was approved by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) on August 24, 2016.
