IR has sanctioned Rs 1.3 billion for the upgradation and expansion of the Siliguri Diesel Loco Shed at Darjeeling’s Siliguri Junction railway station in West Bengal. With this, the shed will become one of the largest in India, increasing its current maintenance capacity from 100 locomotives to 250. It will support both passenger and freight services across the Northeast Frontier Railway zone. Besides, the shed will be equipped with state-of-the-art maintenance and logistics facilities, including advanced machinery and plants specifically designed for the maintenance of evolution series locomotives being manufactured by the JV between IR and the Wabtec Corporation.
