TBM S-839C achieves breakthrough at Corridor II depot ramp under Kanpur Metro Phase I project

The tunnel boring machine (TBM) S-839C has achieved a breakthrough at the Corridor II depot ramp for package KNPCC-11 under the Kanpur Metro Rail Phase I project. It was commissioned at Rawatpur station and constructed a 622 metres downline tunnel towards the Corridor II depot ramp.

Package KNPCC-11 involves  the design and construction of a twin tunnel by shield TBM, tunnel by cut and cover, underground ramp at the Agriculture Depot for main line and depot connections and three underground metro stations viz. Rawatpur, Kakadeo and Double Pullia on Corridor-2. The package was awarded to a joint venture (JV) of Kalpataru Projects International Limited (KPIL) and Gülermak Ağır Sanayi İnşaat ve Taahhüt A.Ş in December 2023.

The Kanpur Metro project involves development of a 33 km long metro rail system in Uttar Pradesh at an investment of Rs 110.76 billion.
