The centre has announced a substantial investment worth Rs 1.25 trillion to enhance Delhi’s road infrastructure, with the objective of reducing congestion and boosting connectivity.
Moreover, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has already completed road projects totalling Rs 640 billion, while projects amounting to around Rs 350 billion are underway. The detailed project reports (DPRs) have already been made for projects worth Rs 240 billion. Additionally, these are now ready for implementation.
A number of significant projects are being carried out to clear the state’s traffic and eliminate pollution. These include an elevated corridor from INA to the airport, which will eventually reach Faridabad and Gurugram, and a 7 km underground tunnel connecting Shiv Murti to Nelson Mandela Road. A feasibility study for a tunnel connecting the IGI Airport with Sarai Kale Khan is also underway.
The NHAI has been given control of important roads like Ashram to Badarpur, M.G. Road, and Rohtak Road. To relieve congestion at railway crossings, about Rs 1.5 billion has been approved for road under bridges (RuBs) and road over bridges (RoBs).
