West Central Railway’s Bhopal Railway division deploys optical fibre-based signal control system

West Central Railway’s Bhopal Railway division has deployed a first-of-its-kind optical fibre-based signal control system for Indian Railways (IR) at the S/SH-15 and S/SH-16 signalling posts in the Nishatpura yard. This cost-efficient system uses a lamp output module device to transmit signals from the control centre to the trackside signal posts via optical fibre. Compared to the conventional wiring system, it offers improved speed, safety, and reliability, along with uninterrupted signal transmission.

Further, the system features an automatic cooling fan to prevent equipment from overheating and a protective component to ensure constant signal visibility. IR has also begun installing the system on the Bhopal-Bina section, with completion expected by June 2026.
