Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has successfully completed the casting of 6,290 precast box segments for the package 7 of the Delhi – Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) project. This milestone follows the recent launch of the final span for the 9.46 km main line of package 7, which is situated to the north of Meerut city. The newly cast segments will be utilised in constructing a 1.7 km depot line that connects the main line to the Modipuram Depot.
The Modipuram Depot, which is currently under construction by KSM Bashir Mohammad and Sons as part of package 5B, is designed to accommodate 20 x 9 coach Alstom semi-high-speed train sets and 36 x 3 coach Alstom mass rapid transit system (MRTS) train sets for local services covering a 20 km route from Partapur to Modipuram.
Package 7 encompasses two sections, 2.35 km Reach 1 and 7.11 km Reach 2, located on either side of the underground tunnels of package 8 that run through Meerut. Earlier this year, L&T completed launching operations for Reach 1 on the southern side, linking Shatabdi Nagar to Brahmapuri Ramp.
