Highway projects worth Rs 524 billion underway in Meghalaya

The centre has announced that national highway projects worth Rs 524 billion are currently underway in Meghalaya, highlighting the focus on improving the state’s connectivity. Projects spanning around 820 km have already been completed, construction is underway on nearly 310 km, while projects spanning around 450 km are in various stages of planning.

According to the centre, these projects will enhance road links within Meghalaya and strengthen connections to neighbouring states, boosting trade, tourism, and overall socio-economic development. The projects will have the use of modern engineering techniques to navigate the region’s challenging hilly terrain and ensure durable, climate-resilient roads. Accelerated construction and timely completion will create local employment opportunities and promote regional growth. The initiative forms part of a broader national push to upgrade infrastructure in the Northeast, integrating remote areas with national economic corridors and improving access to markets and services for residents.
