India has sought partnership with global shipping industry to explore new technologies and the potential of using methanol and ammonia as ship fuels for the shipping industry.
These alternate shipping fuels, methanol and ammonia are considered as cleaner as compared to conventional maritime fuels. Green ammonia and methanol, produced from low carbon sources help in reduced carbon emissions. To this end, India is currently looking at setting up hydrogen centres at Kandla, Paradip and Tuticorin ports.
