DP World launches multimodal service SARAL-2 connecting Chennai to Delhi-NCR
DP World, a leading global provider of smart end-to-end supply chain solutions, announced its multimodal service titled “Sustainable, Assured, Reliable, and Agile Logistics” (SARAL-2), connecting Chennai to the National Capital Region (NCR) under the “SARAL” initiative. This service is the first multimodal daily rail freight service with a capacity of 500 twenty-foot equivalent units per week. DP World launched the first-of-its-kind dedicated scheduled rail freight service, SARAL, connecting customers from south Gujarat to markets in and around NCR, in November 2023.
SARAL-2 leverages DP World’s multimodal services by integrating coastal, rail and truck operations to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions and enhance supply chain efficiencies. With a remarkable CO2 emission reduction of around 70 per cent compared to road transportation, this dedicated service assures efficient cargo transport for customers in Delhi NCR and Chennai.
Kundan Green Energy to develop new hydropower project in Sikkim
On March 5, 2024, Kundan Green Energy announced its mandate to develop a greenfield hydropower plant at Rellichu in Sikkim. The Sikkim government has awarded the project to Kundan Green Energy in recognition of the company’s record of executing hydropower projects with best-in-class standards, committed time-frames and optimal results. To be completed in 2026, the Rellichu hydropower project will generate 21 MW of power and contribute substantially to Sikkim’s energy and developmental agenda. Once commissioned, the Rellichu project will take the combined hydropower capacities of Kundan Green Energy to 125 MW from the present 104 MW.
Speaking on the occasion, Udit Garg, director, Kundan Green Energy, said, “The Northeast accounts for 40 per cent of India’s hydropower potential. Of this, Sikkim’s hydropower potential is assessed at 8,000 MW peak with a firm base of 3,000 MW. With as many as 29 approved hydropower projects in various stages of development, and a 55 MW small hydropower installed capacity, Sikkim has vast potential to generate hydroelectricity. We are enthused to partner with the Government of Sikkim to realise the state’s hydropower potential along best practices.” With four operating projects totalling 35 MW (whose capacities are being enhanced), at Lower Lagyap, Meyong Chu, Kalex Khola and Rabum Chu in Sikkim, and two upcoming projects at Lower Meyong Chu and New Meyong Chu, Kundan Green Energy is a major energy partner for Sikkim. Execution remains the company’s key strength. While the industry average time for commissioning plants is eight to ten years, Kundan Green Energy’s average, including greenfield plants, is a mere four to five years.
