Centre inaugurates Dhupdhara-Chhaygaon and New Bongaigaon-Sorbhog rail sections in Assam

The Union Government inaugurated Dhupdhara-Chhaygaon and New Bongaigaon-Sorbhog rail sections in Assam on March 9, 2024. The Dhupdhara-Chhaygaon section is part of the Bongaigaon-Goalpara-Guwahati (Kamakhya) railway line doubling project. The project, being implemented by Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), involves doubling of the 176-km existing rail line between Bongaigaon, Goalpara and Guwahati in Assam with an investment of Rs 40.59 billion. The New Bongaigaon-Sorbhog section is part of the New Bongaigaon-Agthori rail line doubling project. The project being implemented by NFR, involves construction of 142.97 km long rail line between New Bongaigaon and Agthori via Rangiya will traverse through Bongaigaon, Baksa, Barpeta, Nalbari and Kamrup districts in Assam at an estimated cost of Rs 20.47 billion.
