Centre inaugurates Marathwada Rail Coach Factory in Maharashtra

The Union Government has inaugurated the Marathwada Rail Coach Factory in Latur district in Maharashtra. It will manufacture Vande Bharat train sets for Indian Railways (IR) with its modern and updated machinery. Other projects inaugurated in the state include a wagon repair workshop at Badnera and a Vande Bharat chair car maintenance cum workshop depot in Pune. Besides, the first phase of locomotive production unit was inaugurated in Dahod in Gujarat’s which would facilitate the production of 1,200 locomotives. Siemens is the technology partner for the facility and has been awarded the contract worth Rs 260 billion for production and maintenance of the locomotives for 35 years. The second phase of the unit is likely to be inaugurated by September 2024 with target of first locomotive production by December 2024.
