The Central Government inaugurated the 5 km Sarai Kale Khan-New Ashok Nagar stretch and 21 km Meerut South-Modipuram stretch under the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) Project on February 22, 2026. Designed for speeds of up to 180 kmph, Namo Bharat is India’s first RRTS. The high-speed corridor will provide connectivity between Delhi and key urban hubs including Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Modinagar and Meerut, significantly reducing travel time.
With this, the entire project now stands complete and also includes the Meerut Metro. Meerut Metro spans 23 km including 18 km of elevated and 5 km underground stretch. It has 13 stations (Meerut south, Partapur, Rithani, Shatabdi Nagar, Brahmpuri, Meerut Central, Bhainsali, Begumpul, MES Colony, Daurli, Meerut North, Modipuram and Modipuram Depot). Of them, nine stations are elevated, three are underground and one is at grade station. The RRTS Project involved development of 82.15 km network connecting Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor in the states of Delhi and Uttar Pradesh with an investment of Rs 302.74 billion.
