The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is considering implementing a Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) tolling trial project on the 117 km Bengaluru–Mysuru Access-Controlled Highway (NH-275) in the near future, marking a significant step towards barrier-free and congestion-free highways.
The MLFF system replaces overhead gantries with satellite-based GPS, high-performance radio frequency identification (RFID) FASTag readers, and automated number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras for conventional toll booths. With the goal of removing lengthy lines at toll booths, these systems automatically recognise cars and deduct tolls at high speeds without forcing cars to stop.
Previously, in August 2025, India implemented its first MLFF tolling system at Gujarat’s Choryasi Fee Plaza on NH-48.
