Indo-Myanmar border road to become national highway

A 658 km Indo-Myanmar border road project is undergoing feasibility studies and will soon be designated as a new National Highway. In Manipur, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) is constructing 11 national highways totalling 1,774 km. To date, 747 km have been enhanced with black topping, transforming single-lane configurations into two-lane roads. The remaining 332 km will be finished in 2026-2027.

The Manipur PWD and the National Highway and Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL) Limited are carrying out these projects. The NHIDCL has redoubled its efforts to guarantee timely completion of the 35 project packages that were delayed due to land acquisition and forest clearance challenges as well.

The completion of three main highway corridors, Imphal-Jiribam (NH-37), Yaingangpokpi-Finch Corner (NH-202), Tamenglong-Mahur (NH-137), as well as Churachandpur-Tuivai (NH-102B) and Maram-Peren (NH-129A) is anticipated by 2025-2026.
