The Union Government inaugurated three rail projects in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
These are:
- Mehsana-Palanpur Railway Line Doubling Project: It involved doubling of the existing 65.1 km long Mehsana-Palanpur railway line in Gujarat with an investment of Rs 5.37 billion. The preliminary survey for the project was completed in February 2011.
- Kalol-Kadi-Katosan Road Gauge Conversion Project: It involved gauge conversion of a 37.23 km long railway line between Kalol-Kadi-Katosan Road in Gujarat. It was sanctioned in the Railway Budget 2017-18.
- 40 km long Bechraji-Ranuj section of the Katosan Road-Becharaji-Chanasma-Ranuj Gauge Conversion Project: It entails gauge conversion of a 65 km long Katosan Road-Becharaji-Chanasma-Ranuj rail line from meter gauge (MG) to broad gauge (BG) with 25 kV AC electrification of Katosan Road-Becharaji section along with a new Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) BG siding at Becharaji with 25 kV AC electrification (approximately 3 km) on engineering procurement and construction (EPC) mode. The scope of work shall also include yard remodelling of the existing BG yard of Katosan Road and Ranuj Junction along with electrification of converted BG lines at Katosan Road yard and Becharaji yard. The existing MG track is a single line section between Katosan Road and Ranuj Stations. It is being implemented by a special purpose vehicle (SPV) with three stakeholders namely Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC), MSIL and G-RIDE.
