Centre approves Tura bypass worth Rs 9.51 billion in Meghalaya

The Tura Bypass in Meghalaya, which will connect National Highway (NH) 127B with NH 217, has been approved by the centre at a total cost of Rs 9.51 billion. The 29.03 km bypass will run through the Tura district and is intended to be a two-lane road with paved shoulders.

Instead of taking the current route, which passes through Tura’s congested town centre, the new route will begin on NH-127B close to Sanchonggre village and connect to Jenggitchakgre village on NH-217.

The main route connecting Guwahati and Dalu, a Bangladeshi border town and an official interior customs crossing, is NH-217, formerly known as NH-51.

By rerouting traffic past Tura’s crowded city centre, the bypass will improve road safety, lower local traffic congestion, and cut down on travel time.
