Communications-based train control signalling work commences under Kolkata East-West metro project

In a notable development, communications-based train control (CBTC) signalling work has been commenced under the Kolkata east-west metro project. The CBTC system has been commissioned for automatic train protection to prevent collisions, speeding and red light passing on the east-west corridor. Additionally, the system allows metro rake to operate in an automatic train operation mode.

Further, electrical works related to the aluminium third rail are nearing completion, and the electrical inspector has been approached for the statutory Electrical Inspector to the Government (EIG) inspection of the third rail.

The project involves construction and operation of a 16.6-km long metro connecting Sector 5, Salt Lake in Kolkata to Howrah Maidan through an underwater metro track in Kolkata, West Bengal.
