Maharashtra Government approves Mumbai Metro Line 5, 5A

The government of Maharashtra (GoM) approved the integrated Mumbai Metro Mumbai Metro Phase II Line 5, 5A Project on April 22, 2026. The project spans 34.2 km and has 19 stations in total entailing investment of Rs 181.31 billion.

Line 5 will run from Thane to Bhiwandi and extends up to Durgadi. The stretch from Thane-Bhiwandi having six stations spanning 11.9 km is likely to be operational soon. However, Bhiwandi-Kalyan stretch spanning 10.47 km with six stations is currently facing delays.

Line 5A spanning 11.83 km, will run from Durgadi through Aadharwadi and Khadakpada to Kalyan, with a further extension towards Ulhasnagar. The stretch will have seven stations.

The project also includes an integrated double-decker structure comprising a flyover and metro line between Ranjnoli Junction and Durgadi Chowk to ease congestion in Bhiwandi.
