Satyanarayan Purohit is vice president and HOD at Dilip Buildcon Limited. He has over two decades of experience in construction, operations and maintenance of highways across various implementation models such as engineering, procurement and construction; build-operate-transfer; and the hybrid annuity model. Currently, he is responsible for managing more than 50 operational highway assets. In the past, he has been associated with Highway Concessions (a KKR company), IL&FS, RIDCOR, Engineers India Limited and Gammon India Limited. He is skilled in project management from conception to commissioning, as well as multiple special purpose vehicle management, end-to-end project/asset life cycle management, design management, site engineering, capacity augmentation and contract management.
In the past, Purohit has overseen construction, operations, maintenance and asset management for public-private partnership projects across various sectors such as roads and highways, railway over bridges, structures, buildings and water supply schemes.
According to Purohit, the increasing influx of international investment funds into India has created significant opportunities in highway asset operations. Currently, over 25 infrastructure investment trusts are registered with the Securities and Exchange Board of India. These highway assets generate approximately 15 per cent returns over a 15-year period, establishing them as premier assets for generating stable and long-term income. In this context, Purohit’s responsibility is to ensure targeted returns with sustainable growth, while maintaining optimal asset performance throughout the portfolio’s lifecycle.
Purohit notes, “The government’s National Infrastructure Pipeline initiative is projected to facilitate substantial investments totalling $1.4 trillion by 2025, with international funds already initiating long-term commitments to infrastructure projects. This development will enable infrastructure developers to unlock their equity capital and expand their participation in project tenders. Consequently, this will create extensive opportunities for multiple stakeholders, including developers, EPC contractors, suppliers and pension funds, while simultaneously generating significant employment opportunities.”
Purohit is a civil engineer (first class with distinction) by training from Pune University. He is a life member of the Indian Road Congress and the Institute of Engineers. In his free time, he enjoys playing lawn tennis and table tennis. He believes, “Work-life balance is the most important.” w
