The central government has allocated funds worth Rs 6.9 billion and Rs 5 billion for the Rejuvenation of Mutha and Mula River Project and Nag River Pollution Abatement project, respectively in Maharashtra under the Union Budget 2024-25.
Pune Municipal Corporation is implementing the Rejuvenation of Mutha and Mula River project for pollution abatement at an estimated cost of Rs 12.36 billion under the National River Conservation Plan with financial assistance from Japan International Cooperation Agency. It includes the construction of 11 sewage treatment plants (STPs) and 113.6 km long sewerage network.
The Nag River Pollution Abatement project involves the rejuvenation of Nag River and Pili River by laying sewage lines of 1,362.50 km in north and central sewage zones; construction of three new STPs of total capacity of 72 million liters per day at Shankar Nagar, Morbhavan bus stand and Martin Nagar; three existing STPs at Mokshadham, Mankapur and NIT will be incorporated into the project and stormwater will also be filtered before letting into two rivers at an estimated cost of Rs 19.27 billion. Nagpur Environmental Services Limited, a fully owned special purpose vehicle of Nagpur Municipal Corporation, has been appointed for the implementation of the project. The implementation period is eight years.
