The development of the Thiruvananthapuram-Ponmudi road, part of the rebuild Kerala initiative, has resumed after a brief hiatus. Managed by the Kerala State Transport Project (KSTP), the project had been stalled due to adverse weather conditions and delays in state government payments. The construction, undertaken by a joint venture between Kochi-based Antech Construction Company and PRL, covers a 50 km stretch currently in poor condition.
As per KSTP updates, only 25 per cent of the project is completed, including 50 per cent of culvert construction, 60 per cent of side wall construction, 25 per cent of drain construction, and 36 per cent of toe wall construction. Despite earlier delays due to intermittent rains and payment issues, the project is now set for completion by December 2024. The total revised cost of the project is estimated at Rs 1.91 billion.
