Reportedly, work has commenced by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) for equipping the Rourkela airport with an approach control unit (ACU). It would aid in improving the flights’ regularity and for the approval of special visual flight rules (VFR) flight operations in the future. Instructions for conducting concept/design and execution-level safety assessment were issued on December 22, 2023, for establishing the ACU at the airport.
