Government approves 5 projects for development of IWT on NWs in NER

The government has approved five projects at a total cost of Rs 11.26 billion for development of the inland water transport (IWT) infrastructure on National Waterways (NWs) in the North-Eastern Region (NER). This will improve the waterway connectivity within the NER to facilitate enhancing trade expansion strategies. These projects include comprehensive development of NW-2 (Brahmaputra river), NW-16 (Barak river) and Indian Portion of Indo-Bangladesh Route, construction of an alternative road to Pandu Port on NW-2 to NH-27, construction of ship repair facility at Pandu and development of NW-31 (Dhansiri river) and NW-57 (Kopili river).
