MoPSW inaugurates indigenous DGNSS, Sagar Sampark

The Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways inaugurated the indigenous differential global navigation satellite system (DGNSS), ‘Sagar Sampark’ on July 12, 2023. It is a terrestrial-based enhancement system which corrects the errors and inaccuracies in the global navigation satellite system (GNSS), allowing for more accurate positioning information for vessels. Under the Directorate General of Lighthouses and Lightships, the DGNSS has been launched at six locations. Its service will help mariners in safe navigation and reduce the risk of collisions, groundings, and accidents in the port and harbour areas. Further, DGNSS will increase the availability and redundancy as per international standards and help the mariners improve their positioning within five metres.
