The Goa government is in the process of augmenting the state’s capacity to treat wastewater by 168 mld. Currently, more than 500 mld of water is being treated for supply in the state on a daily basis, but this still falls short of the requirement. The state’s public works department has also received 2,481 complaints of drinking water supply being cut off in 2021. Currently, work on 15 mld water treatment plants is in progress in Porvorim and Chandel villages in Pernem. Similarly, the construction of a 25 mld water treatment plant at Ganjem on the Mhadei river is expected to be completed by December 2022. The state will also be tendering work for the construction of a 30 mld water treatment plant in Tuem, Mandrem soon. This plant, along with the capacity augmentation of the Chandel plant, is expected to resolve Pernem’s water shortage.
