The project proposes to connect 11 major dams in Marathwada through large pipelines. These include a primary loop connecting the reservoirs to enable water to be pumped from water-surplus dams to areas serviced by reservoirs with low storage levels, and a secondary grid of pipelines to supply water to the region’s 76 talukas at an investment of Rs 160 billion. The Maharashtra JeevanPradhikaran has invited bids for the implementation of three Packages (I, II and III) of the Marathwada Water Grid Project. The scope of work under Package I involves the implementation of rising mains and WTPs in Aurangabad and Jalna districts at an expected cost of Rs 42.51 billion. The scope of work under Package II involves the construction of five WTPs aggregating 255 mld at a cost of Rs 47.55 billion. Further, the works under Package III involve the construction of three WTPs with a total capacity of 189 mld in Latur district and the construction of three WTPs with a capacity 181 mld in Osmanabad district at an estimated cost of Rs 30.92 billion.
