Indian law enforcement agencies (LEAs) have reportedly approved Starlink to commence broadband-from-space operations in the country. Starlink had earlier received a global mobile personal communications by satellite licence from the Department of Telecommunications.
However, Starlink cannot yet begin services in India as it has not been allocated satellite spectrum to operate commercially. It must also set up ground infrastructure, including earth stations.
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India is currently consulting with stakeholders on spectrum allocation and pricing. According to the report, the Digital Communications Commission is expected to approve the regulator’s recommendations on satellite communications this month.
