Extended Railway Board grants approval for the Bengaluru suburban rail project

The extended Railway Board approved the Bengaluru suburban rail project on October 4, 2019. The board includes officials from the Ministry of Finance, NITI Aayog and the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation. The proposal for the approved 148 km suburban railway network with 57 stations will now be placed before the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs for its final clearance. The project is estimated to cost Rs 159 billion. An SPV is expected to be incorporated for the implementation of the project. Four corridors – Kengeri-Whitefield, KSR Bengaluru City-Rajanukunte, Nelamangala-Baiyappanahalli and Heelalige-Devenahall – have been proposed under the project.
