NMCG committee approves several sewage projects under Namami Ganga Programme

The executive committee of the National Mission for Clean Ganga has approved several sewage projects in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal under the Namami Gange programme. These include two sewage treatment plant (STP) projects in Delhi at a cost of Rs 5.8 billion (340 million litres per day [mld]). In Delhi, a 318 mld STP will be developed at Coronation Pillar and the second project in the Chattarpur assembly constituency will entail the construction of various sewage pumping stations and nine STPs with a total capacity of 22.5 mld. A total of Rs 2.56 billion will be provided by the central government towards these two projects. Besides, projects at a total cost of Rs 1.28 billion have been approved in Uttar Pradesh. Of these, one existing common effluent treatment plant of 6.25 mld capacity for textile printing units in the Mathura Industrial Area will be taken up for upgradation. Besides, one project for the treatment of the Rampur drain in Rampur, using NSN technology-based bio-oxygenation and another project for the treatment of 30 drains and third-party inspection of 123 drains in the state have been approved. Further, two projects have been sanctioned in West Bengal at a cost of Rs 500 million. One project has been approved for upgrading the STP in Kancharapara from a capacity of 13 mld to 18 mld, along with its O&M for the next 15 years.
