Centre issues land acquisition notification for Panvel Chord Rail Line Project, Panvel-Chowk Rail Line Doubling section under MUTP – Phase III

The Central Government has issued a land acquisition notification for the Panvel Chord Rail Line Project and the Panvel-Chowk Rail Line Doubling under the Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP) – Phase III in Raigad district, Maharashtra.

The notification states the initiation of the land acquisition process for land required for the implementation, maintenance, management and operation of the projects under Central Railway.

The Panvel Chord Rail Line Project involves construction of a 34 km long chord line that will connect Jasai-Karjat, Jasai-Roha, Roha-Karjat sections in the state of Maharashtra.

Panvel-Chowk section (17.28 km) is being developed as part of the Panvel-Karjat Rail Line Doubling project under Phase III of the Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP). MUTP Phase III includes quadrupling the Virar-Dahanu section (64 km), development of new suburban railway tracks between Panvel and Karjat (28 km), trespass control on mid-section on 36 priority sections of existing lines of Central and Western Railway, procurement of rolling stock and development of an elevated link from Airoli to Kalwa in Maharashtra.
