Tuticorin International Container Terminal (TICT) at V.O. Chidambaranar (VOC) Port in Tamil Nadu has been designated a ‘Green Terminal’ after electrifying 100 per cent of its operational equipment. The Secretary, Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways conferred the designation during a review of ongoing infrastructure projects at the port. He also flagged off 13 electric internal transfer vehicles to support cleaner and more energy-efficient container handling operations.
VOC Port is advancing several green maritime initiatives, including pilot projects for green hydrogen and methanol bunkering, alongside wind energy facilities. With an annual cargo-handling capacity of 82 million tonnes, the port is also developing its infrastructure to strengthen its position as a major transhipment hub in southern India.
