Kavach 4.0 commissioned on 2,633 rkm of Delhi-Mumbai and Delhi-Howrah routes till July 31, 2026

Indian Railways (IR) has commissioned Kavach 4.0 on 2,633 route km (rkm) of high density Delhi-Mumbai and Delhi-Howrah routes as of July 31, 2026. This includes 1,327 rkm of Tilak Bridge-Junction cabin-Palwal-Mathura-Kota-Nagda-Ratlam-Vadodra-Virar section, and 96 rkm of Vadodara-Ahmedabad section under Delhi-Mumbai route (1,423 rkm). Along with 563 rkm of Chipyana-Tundla-Kanpur-Subedarganj section, 260 rkm of Chota Ambana-Bardhaman-Howrah section, 159 rkm of Gaya-Sarmatarn-Nimiaghat section, 71 rkm of Kanpur-Lucknow section, 64 rkm of Mirzapur – Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction (DDU) (excluding) section, 50 rkm of DDU (FOC)-Bhabua Road section, and 43 rkm of Sasaram-Pheser section under Delhi-Howrah route (1,210 rkm).

Reportedly, track side Kavach implementation work is being taken up on 21,794 rkm covering all golden quadrilateral (GQ), golden diagonal (GD), high density network (HDN) and identified sections of IR. The total progress of key items of Kavach on IR’s sections includes laying of optical fibre cable on 11,547 Km, installation of track side equipment across 7,726 rkm, installation of 1,721 telecom towers, station data centre at 1,009 stations, and provision of Kavach in 6,290 locomotives. Besides, work for installation of Kavach in 7,190 locomotives has also been taken up.
