Modified UDAN Scheme launched to strengthen regional connectivity

The Modified Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik (UDAN) Scheme was launched on July 4, 2026. Approved in March 2026, the scheme has an outlay of Rs 288.4 billion over the next ten years. The Modified UDAN Scheme targets to develop 100 aerodromes from existing unserved airstrips with an investment of Rs 121.59 billion and develop 200 modern helipads with an investment of Rs 36.61 billion. It allocates Rs 25.77 billion for operations and maintenance support for regional airports and a viability gap funding of Rs 100.43 billion for regional airline operations. It also targets to promote inducting indigenous aircraft and helicopters.

Moreover, the UDAN scheme, launched in 2016, has enhanced regional connectivity in the country by connecting 95 airports, heliports and water aerodromes, operationalising 669 routes and delivering value to more than 16.6 million passengers.
