Jio unveils AI-driven telecom services

As part of its artificial intelligence (AI) strategy, Reliance Jio is embedding AI capabilities directly into its telecom network rather than limiting them to standalone smartphone applications, according to announcements made at Reliance Industries Limited’s 49th annual general meeting (AGM).

The operator said users will be able to access an in-network AI assistant by saying “Hey Jio” during a call. The service, which will be available in Indian languages and operate with user consent, is designed to serve Jio’s subscriber base of more than 500 million customers without requiring additional app downloads.

According to the company, the AI assistant can transcribe multi-speaker conference calls, generate summaries and action items, and perform real-time tasks such as booking cabs or ordering food during conversations.

Jio also announced plans to transform its MyJio application, which has more than 600 million users, into an AI-first relationship management platform. The personalised AI advisor will be capable of assisting users with activities such as relocating to a new city, recommending international roaming packs, providing real-time usage alerts, and completing self-KYC and eSIM activation processes.

On the connectivity front, Jio said its multi-gigabit-ready JioAirFiber service now supports download speeds of up to 5 Gbps and upload speeds of up to 1 Gbps through its indigenous wireless technology platform.

The company said the enhanced bandwidth is designed to support multiple simultaneous use cases, including video streaming, cloud gaming and online learning, while the higher upload capacity will enable applications such as spatial computing and volumetric video.

To improve customer onboarding, Jio also introduced an Express Install programme that promises a multilingual callback within 15 minutes of an inquiry and Wi-Fi installation within 24 hours.

In addition, the company unveiled Jio TeleFrame, an AI operating system for connected homes. The platform integrates multiple AI agents focused on areas such as entertainment, shopping, home automation and family assistance, with support for Indian languages and context-aware interactions.
