The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has granted approval for upgrading the aerodrome licence of the Sindhudurg Airport in Maharashtra from visual flight rules to all-weather operations category, enabling 24×7 operations. The upgrade enhances the safety, efficiency and regularity of aircraft operations at the airport during conditions of reduced visibility. Further, critical infrastructure, including the runway strip, aeronautical ground lighting systems and the required navigation performance-based instrument approach procedures have been validated. The airport also features a non-GNSS radio navigation backup. The capacity of the apron at the airport has also been expanded from three to six aircraft stands.
