National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) has made significant progress across both Gujarat and Maharashtra for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (HSR) Corridor Project. In Gujarat, foundations and piers have been completed over 352 km, with girder casting reaching 342 km and launching 331 km. Track bed construction has covered 152 km and OHE mast erection 121 km. In Maharashtra, foundation work has reached 74 km, piers 65 km, girder casting 9 km and launching 3 km. Foundation works are completed at 8 of the 12 stations in Gujarat, while works are ongoing at Thane, Virar and Boisar, with BKC excavation nearing completion and base slab casting underway. Seventeen river bridges are completed, major bridges are in advanced stages, depot works are progressing, and at BKC, excavation is 91 per cent complete with basement slab finished at Level-4. The under-sea tunnel has begun, with 4.8 km completed between Ghansoli and Shilphata.
The project involves development of the 508.17 km long Mumbai-Ahmedabad HSR corridor in Maharashtra and Gujarat with an investment of Rs 1,080 billion. It is being implemented by a special purpose vehicle (SPV), named NHSRCL, incorporated by the Ministry of Railways (MoR) and the respective state governments of Maharashtra and Gujarat with an equity stake of 50:25:25 respectively.
